Bringing education and awareness to the illicit fentanyl crisis
The Romello A. Marchman Foundation
We lost our Romello to fentanyl poisoning on Memorial Day 2020. Our charity is dedicated to raising awareness that illicit fentanyl kills tens of thousands of people every year. Our mission is to educate parents and the public at large about this nationwide epidemic. Local, state and federal governments are not stepping up enough to ensure everyone in the U.S. is aware of this deadly epidemic. We are taking it upon ourselves to help save lives through awareness and education.

Illicit Fentanyl Kills
Did you know that medical grade fentanyl is a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved synthetic opioid drug that is 100 times more potent than morphine and 50 times more potent than heroin?
However, the illicit fentanyl that is put into recreational drugs, is illegally manufactured, mostly in Mexico. The Mexican drug cartels receive the precursors to make illicit fentanyl, from China. Â Many people believe they purchase cocaine, heroin, or a prescription pill on the street or on social media, like SnapChat, however, what they receive is laced with highly potent illicit fentanyl that oftentimes results in death. These deaths ARE NOT OVERDOSES – THEY ARE MURDERS!!! All our children and loved ones would still be alive today, had they received the drug they had asked for!!!
Nashville, TN – In all of 2022, there were 701 suspected fatal drug “overdose deaths” and 77% (540 people) of those were murdered with illicit fentanyl.
Nashville, TN – In all of 2021 there were 712 suspected fatal drug “overdose deaths” and 74% (527 people) of those were murdered with illicit fentanyl.Â
Nashville, TN – In all of 2020 there were 619 suspected fatal drug “overdose deaths” and 80% (495 people) of those were murdered with illicit fentanyl. Here is the link to all their quarterly reports https://www.nashville.gov/…/drug-overdose-information
CDC Press Release May 11, 2022 – Provisional data from CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics indicate there were an estimated 107,622 drug overdose deaths in the United States during 2021, an increase of nearly 15% from the 93,655 deaths estimated in 2020. The 2021 increase was half of what it was a year ago, when overdose deaths rose 30% from 2019 to 2020. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/nchs_press_releases/2022/202205.htm Â
Opioid overdose deaths rose sharply among teens during the pandemic, largely driven by fentanyl, according to a study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released earlier this year. The study found that deaths from opioid overdoses in teens ages 14 to 18 increased by 94% between 2019 and 2020, and by an additional 20% between 2020 and 2021. Researchers found that adolescent fentanyl-related overdose deaths leaped 350% over the study between 2019 and 2020. Overall, fentanyl was associated with 77% of adolescent overdose deaths in 2021.
U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention finds that between May 2020 and April 2021, nearly two-thirds (64%) of the more 100,000 drug overdose deaths in the country were tied to illicitly manufactured fentanyl or its chemical cousins. The majority of those where young people that died through illicit fentanyl poisoning.
Hundreds of people, especially young people and children die from illicit fentanyl poisoning EVERY day in the U.S.
